{"id":10103,"date":"2012-01-14T20:36:19","date_gmt":"2012-01-15T05:06:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/?p=10103"},"modified":"2012-01-14T20:36:19","modified_gmt":"2012-01-15T05:06:19","slug":"the-grim-implications-of-obama%e2%80%99s-new-defense-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/?p=10103","title":{"rendered":"The Grim Implications of Obama\u2019s New Defense Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Joseph Gerson\u02bbs analysis of the Pentagon\u2019s New Strategic Guidance <a href=\"http:\/\/www.counterpunch.org\/2012\/01\/13\/the-grim-implications-of-obamas-new-defense-plan\/\">&#8220;The Grim Implications of Obama\u2019s New Defense Plan&#8221;<\/a> has been published in Counterpunch:<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>In early January the Obama Administration released the\u00a0Pentagon\u2019s new Guidance,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.defense.gov\/news\/Defense_Strategic_Guidance.pdf\">Sustaining U.S. Global Leadership: Priorities for 21<\/a><sup><a href=\"http:\/\/www.defense.gov\/news\/Defense_Strategic_Guidance.pdf\">st<\/a><\/sup><a href=\"http:\/\/www.defense.gov\/news\/Defense_Strategic_Guidance.pdf\">\u00a0Century Defense<\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0It is clearly designed less to cut U.S. military spending than to reorder Pentagon priorities to ensure full spectrum dominance (dominating any nation, anywhere, at any time, at any level of force) for the first decades of the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0century. As President Obama himself said, after the near-doubling of military spending during the Bush era, the Guidance will slow the growth of military spending, \u201cbut\u2026it will still grow:, in fact by 4% in the coming year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new doctrine places China and Iran at the center of U.S. \u201csecurity\u201d concerns.
