Delgado is an Iraq war veteran and conscientious objector who will be speaking in Hawai&#8217;i this week. Here&#8217;s the intro to the article:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Aidan Delgado grew up in Thailand and Egypt, where his father was a U. S. Foreign Service staffer. In 2000 he returned to the United States to attend college. He joined the Army Reserve and signed his final enlistment document on September 11, 2001 &#8211; minutes before the terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Delgado, a Buddhist, served as a truck mechanic and was part of the initial American invasion of Iraq in 2003. Because he spoke some Arabic, he also translated for his unit. Later he was stationed at Abu Ghraib prison.<\/p>\n<p>He filed for conscientious objector status while in Iraq and continued to serve in the combat zone until CO status was granted and he was discharged 15 months later.
