Awards ceremony and readings will be part of the opening.<\/p>\n January 17, 2010 marks the 117th anniversary of the 1983 overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Queen Lili\u2019uokalani relinquished her throne, turning her authority over to the president of the United States in order to avoid any bloodshed. Queen Lili\u2019uokalani spent the remainder of her life being steadfast, \u2018onipa\u2019a, in her efforts to restore the Kingdom of Hawai\u2019i, and the rights of her people.
