{"id":6039,"date":"2010-02-20T00:50:44","date_gmt":"2010-02-20T09:20:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/?p=6039"},"modified":"2010-02-20T00:50:44","modified_gmt":"2010-02-20T09:20:44","slug":"japanese-factions-differ-on-futenma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/?p=6039","title":{"rendered":"Japanese factions differ on Futenma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/article.asp?section=104&amp;article=68111 \">http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/article.asp?section=104&amp;article=68111<\/a><\/p>\n<h1>Japanese factions still differ on Futenma<\/h1>\n<p>By David Allen, Stars and Stripes<\/p>\n<p>GINOWAN, Okinawa \u2014 At odds over plans to relocate Marine Corps Air Station Futenma to Okinawa\u2019s northeast shore, the two minority parties of a special committee backed away from promises to submit their ideas for alternate locations at a meeting Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Kantoku Teruya, a committee member and Social Democratic Party representative from Okinawa, told reporters in Tokyo on Tuesday that there was some \u201cout-of-the-ring fighting\u201d between members of the two minority parties in the ruling coalition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApparently, more adjustment is needed,\u201d said Mikio Shimoji, a People\u2019s New Party representative on the committee from Okinawa, in a telephone interview Wednesday. \u201cHowever, I have no intention of changing our proposals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama formed the committee to review the 2006 agreement to build a new air facility on the lower part of Camp Schwab and reclaimed land in Oura Bay.<\/p>\n<p>After a two-day visit to Guam last week, members of the SDP and the PNP announced they would submit their ideas for alternatives to the Camp Schwab plan at the committee\u2019s next meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The SDP was expected to favor moving the Marine air operations to Guam.
