{"id":9136,"date":"2011-07-13T08:37:46","date_gmt":"2011-07-13T17:07:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/?p=9136"},"modified":"2011-07-13T08:37:46","modified_gmt":"2011-07-13T17:07:46","slug":"neighbor-isles-might-challenge-reapportionment-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/?p=9136","title":{"rendered":"Neighbor isles might challenge reapportionment vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.staradvertiser.com\/news\/hawaiinews\/20110712_Neighbor_isles_might_challenge_reapportionment_vote.html\">Honolulu Star Advertiser<\/a> reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Neighbor island reapportionment advisory councils  meet today to consider challenging a vote last month by the state  Reapportionment Commission to include nonresident military members and  their families along with nonresident students and incarcerated felons  in Hawaii\u2019s population count for purposes of redrawing state political  boundaries to reflect population shifts in the most recent U.S. census.<\/p>\n<p>The inclusion of those nonresident populations \u2014  about 70,000 people \u2014 would prevent Hawaii island from gaining a state  Senate seat, based on overall population growth since 2000.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>In testimony prepared for the meeting, Hawaii  island state Sen.
