{"id":9416,"date":"2011-09-08T01:32:10","date_gmt":"2011-09-08T10:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/?p=9416"},"modified":"2011-09-08T01:32:10","modified_gmt":"2011-09-08T10:02:10","slug":"will-dlnr-approve-army-helicopter-training-on-mauna-kea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/?p=9416","title":{"rendered":"Will DLNR approve Army helicopter training on Mauna Kea?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/hamet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9419\" title=\"hamet\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dmzhawaii.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/hamet.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The staff of the State of Hawai&#8217;i Department of Land and Natural Resources is recommending approval of an Army request for a permit to conduct high altitude helicopter training on the sacred mountain Mauna Kea.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.staradvertiser.com\/newspremium\/20110907_army_copter_training_proposal_on_big_isle_earns_endorsement.html?id=129364568&amp;c=n\">Honolulu Star Advertiser<\/a> reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>State Department of Land and Natural Resources staff is recommending approval of a month&#8217;s worth of high-altitude helicopter training on the slopes of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa for Army pilots and crews deploying to Afghanistan in January.<\/p>\n<p>The Army&#8217;s request for a &#8220;right-of-way&#8221; permit for training in October on state conservation land is scheduled to come before the Board of Land and Natural Resources on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The 9 a.m. meeting will be held at the Kalanimoku building on Punchbowl Street. Acceptance of an environmental assessment, finding of &#8220;no significant impact,&#8221; and the permit for the Hawaii Island training are being sought by the Army.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>The permit request is for October training only.
