Protect Kaho\u2018olawe \u2018Ohana rededicates itself to Kaho\u2018olawe<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0(K\u0101newai, O\u2018ahu). The Protect Kaho\u2018olawe \u2018Ohana (\u2018Ohana) will host All Our Aloha in One K\u0101noa<\/em> on Sunday, September 25 from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM at Ka Papa Lo\u2018i \u2018o K\u0101newai at 2645 Dole Street.\u00a0 The event, which is free and open to the public, and welcomes families, wraps up a year of islandswide activities marking the 20th<\/sup> anniversary since the bombing of Kaho\u2018olawe was stopped,\u00a0 The \u2018Ohana invites the community to join in the rededication of promoting Aloha \u2018\u0100ina throughout the islands.\u00a0 Activities include talk story panels, music, food and other activities.\u00a0 The \u2018Ohana will be serving \u2018awa from the k\u0101noa (\u2018awa bowl) that has been traveling across the Hawaiian Islands for the past year inviting community to rededicate themselves to Kanaloa Kaho\u2018olawe and continued efforts for its restoration.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Three unique k\u016bk\u0101k\u016bk\u0101 sessions will bring in members of the community to connect to Kaho\u2018olawe:<\/p>\n

11 \u2013 12 PM.\u00a0 MAKAHIKI.\u00a0 Makahiki practitioners from various O\u2018ahu communities will share their experiences around the revival of Makahiki on Kaho\u2018olawe and how they\u2019ve connected those practices to their own wahi kapu (sacred places).<\/p>\n

1\u00a0 \u2013 2 PM.\u00a0 I MUA N\u0100 PUA.\u00a0 Young people will share what the island has meant to them as students and family members through poems, songs, oli, or their personal stories.<\/p>\n

3\u00a0 \u2013 4 PM.\u00a0 EA.\u00a0 Activists and proponents of Hawaiian sovereignty and restoration will describe their visions of how Kanaloa Kaho\u2018olawe fits into a Hawaiian entity.<\/p>\n

Live music will be featured between sessions, including music by the Hakioawa Serenaders, Steve Ma\u2018i\u2018i, Jon Osorio, Ernie Cruz, Jr., and Kupa\u2018\u0101ina.<\/p>\n

The lo\u2018i at K\u0101newai was re-established by UH Hawaiian language and culture students who were also members of the Protect Kaho\u2018olawe \u2018Ohana.\u00a0 K\u016bpuna who guided the activities on Kaho\u2018olawe also helped young people to re-open the lo\u2018i kalo.\u00a0 The histories of the two communities are interconnected.<\/p>\n

Ono food, familiar to those who have accessed Hakioawa with the \u2018Ohana, will be available for donation.\u00a0 All proceeds from the day will support the mission of the Protect Kaho\u2018olawe \u2018Ohana.<\/p>\n

Formed in 1976, the vision of the Protect Kaho\u2018olawe \u2018Ohana is Aloha \u2018\u0100ina.<\/em><\/p>\n

Its mission is to promote Aloha \u2018\u0100ina throughout the islands through cultural, educational and spiritual activities that heal and revitalize the cultural and natural resources on Kaho\u2018olawe.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
