Lingle slams Obama on terror, but has a ‘tin ear’ to U.S. occupation of Hawai’i

At the recent Republican National Committee conference in Hawai’i, Governor Lingle took a pot shot at Obama’s State of the Union speech, accusing Obama of having a “tin ear” on national security.  She argued that suspects in terrorist attacks should be tried in military commissions rather than civilian courts.  Lingle joins the right wing chorus that is calling for the suspension of civil liberties and due process in favor of militarized systems of punishment and discipline, a very dangerous and slippery slope.  What’s most offensive is that she falls back on using  “Remember Pearl Harbor” jingoism to buttress her point:

She said people in Hawai’i have a heightened awareness of the issue because of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.

“We have a clear understanding what it means to be attacked on our own soil,” Lingle said.

She doesn’t have a clue about what it means to be a subject of an occupation by a foreign military power on your own soil.    But then again, I guess she wouldn’t because she is part of the occupation.
